History of PFLAG

Founded in 1972 with the simple act of a mother publicly supporting her gay son, PFLAG is the nation’s largest family and ally organization.

Uniting people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) with families, friends, and allies, PFLAG is committed to advancing equality through its mission of support, education, and advocacy. PFLAG has 400 chapters and 200,000 supporters crossing multiple generations of American families in major urban centers, small cities, and rural areas in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.

The South Bend / Michiana Chapter of PFLAG was established in 1992 by two mothers with LGBTQ kids. Its members were instrumental in establishing the LGBTQ Center, which has been an ongoing resource in our community since 2005.

Meetings

Our meetings are now held in South Bend at The LGBTQ Center. We meet on the 4th Thursday of every month at 6:30 pm. The LGBTQ Center is located at 251 E. Sample St. in South Bend and virtually via Zoom.
